Used Car Buying Tips 4
The Two-Way-Trade-in Flip (a longshot)
A friend of ours was about to purchase an expensive new vehicle from a new car dealership. We were interested in the car she was going to trade in. She wouldn't sell us the car directly because in Quebec you pay tax on the difference between the value of your trade-in and the purchase price of the new vehicle. By selling us the car one of us would have had to pay the extra tax which was a significant amount. We negotiated with the dealership to sell us her car for the trade-in value plus their $150 "admin" fee. The sales staff were happy as they sold 2 cars instead of one.
